No pertenece estrictamente ni a la cultura de llegada ni a la de partida, a pesar de que podemos afirmar que una obra una vez traducida se ve inmediatamente incorporada a la tradición que la acoge. El libro traducido, cuyos derechos pertenecen a la editorial que lo publica, se vincula sin embargo, por el nombre, a su autor y por lo tanto a la cultura de origen. Nora Catelli y Marieta Gargantagli (1998) hablan incluso de un desajuste jerárquico entre culturas cuando hablamos de traducción. Las relaciones de poder existentes entre autor y traductor no son mas que una de las dimensiones de la economía de intercambio que rige la producción y la transmisión de traducciones.
