This is a superb book to read for primary readers in grade Pre-K through third grade, although readers of all ages will enjoy the banter between the crayons and the main character, Duncan. This book could also be used as a multidisiplinary choice. Teachers could incorporate reading, writing letters, basic grammar, art, music, and science just to name a few. For older readers, lessons could include topics such as literary devices, sarcasm, irony, art, science and writing skills. The Day the Crayons Quit is a must-have for all elementary libraries. The sequel was released in August of 2015, The Day the Crayons Came Home and is a great item to add to an elementary collection.
